How to Compress Images Without Noticeable Quality Loss

A practical way to reduce image file size while checking that important visual details remain clear.

Can you compress an image without losing quality?

Lossless compression can reduce file size without discarding image data. Lossy compression removes data to make files smaller, so some quality change is possible. The useful goal for lossy formats is often to choose settings where the size savings are worthwhile and the differences are not noticeable at the intended display size.

Start with the right dimensions

Do not export a much larger image than the layout needs. Match pixel dimensions to the intended display size and account for high-density displays where appropriate. Oversized source assets can add bytes without improving the visible result.

Choose format and quality together

Select a format that suits the image and the delivery environment. Compare quality settings rather than choosing the smallest file automatically. Photographs, gradients, icons, and transparent UI graphics can respond differently to the same compression level.

Compare at the size users will see

Export a few candidate settings and compare them side by side at the intended display size. Inspect text-like edges, gradients, skin tones, transparency boundaries, and repeated patterns. Keep the original source so you can make a new export later.

Batch optimize from Figma

Turbo Image Compressor & Exporter lets you select Figma images, adjust compression quality, convert formats, and export a batch. Review a sample of the output before applying the same settings to a large asset set.
